Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's been media critic since. She created Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency investigates how women are represented in popular media. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her main focus. But, she also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who have been left out. Sarkeesian is a graduate in social and political thinking at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was studying at the University. The ambitious lady planned to create an online series that examined the gender roles in games and was then the victim of an online campaign to harass her. The woman was not stopped by the harassment, the fact is that it only bolstered her desire to become a media critic and feminist. Her notable contributions to the field of feminist are recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning journalist. She was also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational organisation that studies pop culture gender representations.
